Aguamiel offers unique & personalized experiences, and at the heart of each, a desire that each person leaves feeling nourished by a deeper connection to themselves, to the food they eat, to each other, to the elements, and to nature.
For all of our offerings, we invoke the universal ancient language of ceremony to imbue our acts with importance, to make them sacred. To practice gratitude. To give something back, in return for all of the gifts we have received.
We gather in a circle. We light the sacred fire. We ask permission. We honor and invoke the five elements and the seven directions. We speak from our hearts. We give thanks. We weave a web. We strengthen our connection to the divine and to one another. We connect with intention. For all of our relations.

ON-SITE EVENTS
Tranquil + quiet, our countryside paradise is perfect for daytime gatherings. Located in the lush valley of Etla, Aguamiel is a rural agricultural area 35 minutes from Oaxaca’s City Center. Our facilities include table seating for 40 people (with the option to rent more for larger gatherings), ecological toilets, bar, lounge & picnic area with straw mats and low tables, temazcal, and dressing rooms.
For Aguamiel hosted events, we offer custom menus based on consciously sourced local and seasonal products, with the option for ceremonial or medicinal temazcal (sweat lodge).

Aguamiel offers ceremonial meals guided by our principles of integrative health, ancestral wisdom, and consciousness around the preparation & consumption of food. We incorporate the sacred language of ceremony as a way to connect to what we consume with consciousness—from the land where our nourishment originates and how we choose our ingredients, to the manner in which it is prepared, to the way it is served and shared.
Our focus is on the restoration of health and harmony in our ways of relating with food, as well as the health and harmony of our families and communities. Food and ceremony are universal, fundamental foundations of all human cultures, and can be powerful tools for remembering that we are all brothers and sisters from the same generous Mother who nurtures us—that there is so much that interweaves us all & so much to be grateful for.

In this experience your group will have private access to our countryside dining room, enjoying an all-inclusive custom farm-to-table menu prepared especially for your family and/or friends in the shade of the trees, enjoying healing foods and specialty drinks prepared with care and with clean ingredients. Reserve up to two days in advance. Minimum 10 people.

The word temazcal comes from Nahuatl temazcalli and means “house of hot stones” or “house of steam.” In northern lands it is known as a sweat lodge. It’s a sacred structure of healing and purification through the use of hot stones and steam, an ancient medicine that has healing properties physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Our home in the countryside is the perfect place to hold healing gatherings and workshops, barefoot on the grass under the shade of the trees. We love to collaborate with other like-minded humans who provide experiences with the aims of empowerment, education, community-building, and healing.

We host a variety of events and activities at Aguamiel—not only those centered around food. We love to incorporate the language of sacred ceremony as an opening and/or closing to other gatherings, workshops, or other activities as a way to connect deeply, set intentions, and build group bonds.
TEMAZCAL
Many cultures have a tradition of using steam baths to purify, heal & restore balance to the body, mind, emotions, and spirit. The temazcal that we know in Mexico today is a culmination of traditions gathered and shared from many cultures of Mesoamerica. There are different types of temazcales made with different materials and for different uses.
In general, a temazcal is a small, low, enclosed structure that is either dome-shaped or square/rectangular. Heated stones provide the heat and water infused with medicinal plants create a healing, fragrant steam.
The main types of temazcal that are still in use in Mexico today are the ceremonial temazcal—a communal ritual of symbolic rebirth—and the medicinal temazcal, or ancestral steam bath, which is used by families or communities as a tool for healing and restoring balance to our beings.

We offer private temazcal ceremonies for groups of 5-15 people. The ceremony is of four puertas, or sections, each dedicated to a sacred element (earth, water, fire, air). It is a ceremony of purification and rebirth in which we are asked to confront ourselves and push through discomfort to find the healing power within each of us. It is both a personal and collective healing, where we sing, pray, and practice silence. Temazcal ceremonies can be booked for general healing, or we can create personalized ceremonies based on the needs and desires of the group (i.e. women’s temazcal, weddings, kids, etc.).

The temazcal as a place of healing has a long history in Mexico, and was often used by midwives and curanderas along with herbs and massage. We also offer a medicinal temazcal for those who would like to experience an ancestral steam bath. Guests are welcome to enter and exit as they wish, and can enjoy the medicine without a guided ceremony.
NOMADIC
We love to travel and share the medicine of food and temazcal with people all over the world. Our Sacred Food Ceremonies can be enacted anywhere, and we always get inspired to explore the local culture, stories, products and cuisine of other lands. We also travel with a nomadic temazcal inipi as a sacred medicine center of Mother Earth with a ceremony.

Xochimetztli — 29 Palms, CA May 2023
Mexico meets the Mojave Desert. Leahy + Chef Gera, in collaboration with Ryan Heffington offer an experience of ceremony and communion. We gather under vast vistas of starry desert skies bathed in the light of the full flower moon as brothers and sisters in celebration of the gifts of Life.
Saturday, 5pm–Late — Ceremonial Full Moon Feast + Fiesta
A family-style feast crafted with care using seasonal and consciously sourced ingredients, combining local products with flavors from the valleys of Oaxaca. A unique sensorial experience, recalling ancestral food traditions that nourish our bodies, spirits, and communities. Followed by dancing, lounging, and communing under the moon and stars.
Sunday, 12pm — Temazcal Sweat Lodge Ceremony
A closing sweat lodge ceremony invoking the medicine of the four elements to connect, purify, and restore balance and harmony physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
